Living in Vienna
What it's really like to live in Vienna
Vienna is an incorporated town in Fairfax County, roughly 15 miles west of Washington, D.C., sitting right next to the shopping and office hub of Tysons. With about 16,000 residents, it has its own town government, police, and parks, which gives it a close-knit, hometown feel that is rare this close to the city. Tree-lined streets are filled with classic brick colonials, mid-century ramblers, and a growing number of custom new builds. Many homes are an easy walk or bike ride from the town's main streets.
Maple Avenue and historic Church Street form the heart of town, lined with family-owned restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques. The W&OD Trail passes right through Vienna, marked by its restored red caboose and old railroad depot, and the town hosts favorites like ViVa! Vienna! and the Halloween parade each year. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens and Wolf Trap, the national park for the performing arts, are just minutes away. Commuters can choose between the Orange Line at Vienna station, the Silver Line in Tysons, and quick access to I-66 and the Beltway.
