Living in Great Falls
What it's really like to live in Great Falls
Great Falls sits in northern Fairfax County along the Potomac River, about 17 miles from downtown Washington, where winding Georgetown Pike leads past stone walls, horse fences and homes set on acre-plus lots. Large-lot zoning and the absence of public sewer in much of the area keep the landscape green, quiet and wooded. The village center on Walker Road is the heart of daily life, with a coffee house, an Irish pub, an ice cream parlor and a Saturday farmers market. It feels like the country, yet Tysons, Reston and the Beltway are a short drive away.
Weekends here revolve around the outdoors. Great Falls Park, a national park, puts the river's dramatic rapids and miles of trails minutes from home, and Riverbend Park and the historic Colvin Run Mill add even more green space. Community traditions run deep, from summer Sunday concerts on the village green to the Saturday morning Cars and Coffee gathering. Buyers come for privacy, space and custom homes, and they stay for the small-town spirit.
