What it's really like to live in Chantilly
Chantilly is a community in western Fairfax County, about 25 miles west of Washington, DC, positioned where Route 50, Route 28, and I-66 meet just south of Dulles Airport. It is best known as home to the Smithsonian's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where the Space Shuttle Discovery is on display, and to the historic Sully plantation house built in 1799. Daily life centers on well-planned neighborhoods, big-box conveniences, and some of the region's best Korean, Japanese, and South Asian food.
The area's location makes it a favorite for commuters headed to Dulles, Reston, Tysons, or the government and defense employers along the Route 28 corridor. Parks like Ellanor C. Lawrence and the Cub Run stream valley trails add green space close to home. Housing is mostly 1980s to 2000s single-family homes and townhomes, with newer communities in planned developments like Westfields and around Route 50.
